Maryland has also seen an increase in mental health concerns, with over 400,000 adults experiencing a mental illness. The state has one of the highest rates of drug overdose deaths in the country, with over 2,000 fatalities in 2019, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Delaware has one of the highest rates of serious mental illness in the country, with approximately 6.5% of adults affected. The state also has one of the highest suicide rates, with 15.3 deaths per 100,000 people, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
In Massachusetts, over 600,000 adults are living with a mental illness. The state has a relatively low suicide rate compared to other states, with 10.5 deaths per 100,000 people, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Connecticut has also seen an increase in mental health concerns, with over 350,000 adults affected. The state has a higher than average rate of drug overdose deaths, with 14.6 fatalities per 100,000 people, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
