Understanding Military Sexual Trauma

Military sexual trauma (MST) refers to sexual assault or sexual harassment experienced during military service. It can affect service members of any gender, and its effects are often long-lasting, many survivors experience PTSD, depression, anxiety, or difficulty with substance use as a result.

You do not need to have reported the incident when it happened, or have documentation that it occurred, to receive care for its impact on your mental health. What matters most is getting support that understands the specific nature of this experience.

Located in Phoenixville, we provide MST-related treatment to individuals throughout Chester County and the greater Philadelphia region, with statewide access available via telehealth.

Our Approach to MST-Related Care

We understand the unique dynamics of trauma that occurs within a military context, the complexities of chain of command, unit cohesion, and service culture that can make this trauma especially difficult to process and disclose. Our team approaches MST-related care with this context in mind, creating a safe, respectful space for healing.

Where possible, we accommodate provider gender preferences, since comfort and safety with your treatment team can significantly affect your ability to engage in trauma work.

How We Treat MST-Related Trauma

EMDR

A specialized therapy that helps the brain process traumatic memories without requiring extensive verbal recounting.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Structured therapy addressing the thought patterns and behaviors connected to traumatic experience.

PHP & IOP

Structured levels of care for more severe or persistent symptoms, full-day PHP or a more flexible IOP schedule.

Your treatment is guided by a coordinated clinical team, led by Dr. Jeffrey Simon, MD, Medical Director & Psychiatrist, working from one plan built around you.
