What It Is

Understanding OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a long-lasting condition in which a person experiences uncontrollable, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and feels driven to repeat certain behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) in response. These patterns can consume significant time and cause real distress, often interfering with work, relationships, and daily functioning.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, an estimated 1.2% of U.S. adults had OCD in the past year, with prevalence higher among women than men. Over a lifetime, roughly 2.3% of adults will experience OCD, meaning millions of people navigate this condition, even though it's often misunderstood or reduced to stereotypes about tidiness or handwashing.

Located in Phoenixville, we provide OCD treatment to individuals throughout Chester County and the greater Philadelphia region, including Pottstown, Malvern, Norristown, and surrounding communities.
